The Staff

Wendy d’E. Vallancey and Mary Bramley graduated from Glasgow Strathclyde in 1987 and went their separate ways to finish their qualifications. They have both worked in small and large independent practices and also large multiples across the South of England.
Mary never really left Aves, working here part time over the years. Wendy joined the practice in 2001 as a partner when Roger Murray decided to retire. Grahame Dadd retired a year later and Mary and Wendy took over as full Partners in the business. They are both very keen to continue the caring and personal care ethos started by the previous partners.

Andrew Pirie was one of the original Partners and continues to work at Aves as a Consultant Optometrist. He has had many years experience working as an Optometric Supervisor at the Institute of Optometry in London.

James Turner joined the practice in 2006 as a pre-registration student and successfully qualified in 2007. After a few months travelling, he returned to take up the post of full-time Optometrist.

Rakhee Shah recently joined Aves in April 2008 on the recommendation of her friend and our previous colleague, Leona Liebner, who has now moved back to Cardiff.

Steven Roberts is one of our full-time Dispensing Opticians. He has excellent technical knowledge of Optics and fortunately is also extremely IT literate – a winning combination!

Rosie Ede has graduated from receptionist to Optical Advisor with us and loves helping patients choose new frames and styles. She is also a part time actress, so you may see her pop up on the television unexpectedly from time to time!

Our reception staff all tend to work part- time, but most have been with us for many years and know our patients well. They are: Carol, Sheila, Liz, Elaine, Anne and Sandra.  


The Optometrists at Aves have developed and maintained good working relationships with the local GP practices and hospitals over the years, and they are fully trained and equipped to examine the visual health of people with learning difficulties, hearing and mobility difficulties.
